Paying tribute to India’s freedom fighters

Nevrati Govind Adurkar

Kolhapur, Maharashtra

May 22, 2023 to May 22, 2024

Adurkar's participation in the civil disobedience movement was a reflection of the widespread discontent among the Indian people against the oppressive British rule.

Despite being only 17 years old, Adurkar was a respected leader who inspired many others to join the movement. His popularity and influence grew, and he quickly became a symbol of resistance against British rule in Kolhapur. However, his involvement in the movement led to his prosecution under section 17(2) of the Criminal Law Amendment Act.

The sentence of 2 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of fifty rupees did not deter Adurkar's spirit. He continued to fight for the cause of Indian independence, even during his time in prison. His unfaltering determination and bravery in the face of adversity make him a true hero of the freedom struggle. Adurkar's contribution to the struggle for independence may have gone unnoticed by the larger world, but his legacy lives on as an inspiration to many young people in the country today. His willingness to sacrifice his freedom for the cause of Indian independence serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by countless other unsung heroes during the freedom struggle.

Adurkar, a young participant in the civil disobedience movement, faced legal consequences for his actions against British rule. Despite the sentence of two years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine, he remained dedicated to the cause of Indian independence, serving as an inspiration to others.
