Paying tribute to India’s freedom fighters

Neminath Anna Katte was a prominent freedom fighter born in Miraj in 1904. He actively participated in the Indian independence movement and was imprisoned multiple times for his activities.

In 1930, he was imprisoned for participating in anti-government activities. He was also a member of the Satara District Congress Committee and participated in various activities of the committee. During the Civil Disobedience movement, he was imprisoned again and sentenced to four months of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of fifty rupees under section 17(1) of the criminal law amendment act in December 1932. Neminath Anna Katte's contributions to the freedom movement did not stop there. In 1942, he was a part of the Parallel government in Satara and was one of the guerrilla leaders of the movement. He played a significant role in disrupting the order, and his activities earned him a price on his head. However, he had the support of many people, especially businessmen who believed in his cause.
