Paying tribute to India’s freedom fighters

Mahadeo Vithal Paranjpye, born in 1902, was a prominent satyagrahi from Rajapur taluka, who played a crucial role in the civil disobedience movement. He was a fearless activist who actively participated in the movement by undertaking various activities that aimed to challenge the British government's authority. His activism led to multiple prosecutions and imprisonments.

Despite being confined to his village in Rajapur after his first prosecution, Mahadeo Vithal Paranjpye remained determined to spread the cause of the civil disobedience movement. He defied the orders and traveled to various places, posting placards with anti-British provocations on them. His brave actions drew attention to the movement and inspired many people to join the struggle for independence.

Mahadeo's activism eventually led to his arrest during a fair held at Madban Village. However, even during his prosecution, he remained unwavering in his commitment to the movement, stating that he would not obey any terms of any notice that prevented him from carrying on his satyagraha work. Consequently, he was sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of rupees one hundred and fifty on 1 February 1932.
