Gyarah-Murti-statue

One of the most iconic and photographed sites of Delhi is a symbolic dedication to Mahatma Gandhi. The Gyarah Murti statue depicts the Dandi March held in the year 1931. If you flip a note of Rs 500, you will see a picture of 10 people walking behind Gandhi. This famous structure is located at Sardar Patel Marg, New Delhi which captures the attention of the on-lookers.

To commemorate the Dandi March, the Government of Independent India commissioned a statue which was to be erected close to President’s Estate in New Delhi. The best available talent was sought, and the choice fell on Deviprasad Roychowdhury who had to his credit a number of outstanding memorials.

His sculptures are inspired by the impressionist works of the French sculptor Auguste Rodin. The landmark Gyarah Murti statue gives a sense of motion, purpose, inherent determination, and urgency– characteristic of the Dandi March.
