National Commission for Protection of Child Rights celebrates 18th Foundation Day on the theme “Empowering Girl Child”

On 2nd March 2023, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) celebrated its 18th Foundation Day at Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, New Delhi. The theme of the event was “Empowering Girl Child” and children from 75 districts from bordering villages were invited for the program.

Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, Union Minister of Women and Child Development (WCD) and Minority Affairs was invited as the chief guest for the event. Shri Indevar Pandey, Secretary, WCD and Shri Priyank Kanoongo, Chairperson, NCPCR were also present at the celebration.

The Union Minister was elated to witness the participation of children from bordering districts of the country. Sharing the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s thoughts, she encouraged and motivated the audience by highlighting that children are crucial for the growth and development of the nation. She also urged NCPCR to ensure that men and boys be sensitized at a young age regarding the issues and efforts related to empowering the Girl Child.

Shri Priyank Kanoongo expressed his gratitude to the dignitaries and the children for being a part of the event. He added that NCPCR has resolved to empower children to become ‘child rights champions’ who will fight for children's rights and pave the road for nation-building. NCPCR’s efforts are part of the total efforts being made by the Hon’ble Prime Minister to establish a child-friendly nation.

A tour of Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya was organized for all the kids and their parents/escorts. Ms. Rupali Banerjee Singh, Member Secretary, NCPCR, gave a vote of thanks at the end of the event and thanked everyone for their active involvement.
