The District Administration, SPS Nellore District has observed Energy Conservation Week under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav from 14th to 20th December 2021.
National Energy Conservation Day is observed to raise awareness about the significance of energy and the need of saving or conserving energy by using less energy. The most precise method of energy conservation is to utilize less energy by minimizing energy waste. To store energy for future use, it is critical to use it effectively. To have a greater impact on the energy conservation strategy, energy conservation should be ingrained in every human being's behavior.
Objectives of National Energy Conservation Day
The main objective of Energy Conservation is National and Global interest to save fossil fuels and make optimized generation by avoiding wasting power due to human negligence and unaware importance of global warming.
On average 125 Lakh units per day are consumed in Nellore District as against the average demand of 700MW. A lot of energy is wasted by the public. If we could save at least 10% of the total energy consumed in the district, we could save around 1.5 lakh units per day. The saving of these wasted units per day can lead to the reduction of generation of at least 10MW generation and cost @ AvgRs 6/- per unit and we could save Rs 9 lakh per day and nearly Rs 3 crore per month.
In order to create awareness, the importance of energy conservation, the following activities are conducted from 14th Dec to 20th Dec during Energy conservation week -2021.
Under the Chairmanship of SPSR NelloreDistrict Energy Conservation Committee Sri KVN Chakradhar Babu, IAS, District Collector & Magistrate, sensitized and discussed with all departments HODs the programs to be conducted to create awareness in public on Energy Conservation in the District during 14th to 20th December 2021.
Wide publicity was given in more than 100 prominent locations through hoardings, posters, and banners where huge gatherings of the public happen on a daily basis.
Organized 15 Seminars and presentations all over the Revenue divisions, Mandal Headquarters, and villages to create awareness on the importance of Energy Conservation.
To create awareness of Energy conservation among children, competitions were conducted in 50 schools/ colleges all over the district with a participation of 1000 students in essay writing, drawing competition, and elocution on 15th, 16th& 17th December.
To create public awareness and attention on Energy conservation, Rally was conducted by involving the public, officials, Urban and Rural Local Bodies, Self-help groups on 14th December.
PowerPoint presentations in 4 Engineering colleges were organized with a gathering of 500 students with details about Fossil fuels, existing capacities, demand, usage, and wastage, etc., and possibilities of energy saving through Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency on 15th, 16th & 17th December.
On 20th December, prizes and mementos are presented to the school children by District Collector Sri KVN ChakradharBabu. IAS
