Lakshmi – a contemporary dance theatre production by Anveshana Group, Delhi.

In Indian society, Lakshmi has always been a symbol of hope, courage, and empowerment of women. As Goddess Lakshmi, she is divine energy, showering her devotees with blessings. As Rani Lakshmi Bai she is the courageous warrior queen of Jhansi. This production pays tribute to a modern-day Lakshmi – Lakshmi Agarwal – a victim of acid burn – who turned victor – a symbol not only of courage and grit but also of hope. Her story cuts across barriers of age and nationalities. Lakshmi did not allow an unfortunate incident like an acid attack to ruin her life. Instead, she stood up for her rights. Her mission, after her attack, was to help other survivors, so that they too could lead dignified lives. Her motto in life has been that they may ruin my outer looks with their acid, but they cannot shatter my dreams. Her inspiring story of strong willpower has stirred millions of hearts in India and across the world.

The production has been directed and choreographed by Sangeeta Sharma and incorporates the folk dance forms of Kalaripayettu and Chhau as well as Indian contemporary dance.
