Celebration of Constitution Day 2022 in Lebanon

Two events for the celebration of Constitution Day 2022.

(i) Seminar on the topic “Constitutional Rights and Duties”: Embassy of India, Beirut organized a Seminar on the topic “Constitutional Rights and Duties” second year in a row on the Embassy Premises on the occasion of Constitution Day on 25th November 2022 which was attended and addressed by none other than a sitting judge Michel Tarazai of Lebanese Constitutional Council (equivalent to a Hon’ble Judge of Indian Supreme Court) and other Judge Dr. Maya Karam, & Dr. Zenab Mirza, a constitutional expert and professor at the prestigious American University of Beirut (AUB). The Seminar has become a milestone event providing a platform for meaningful discussions on constitutional matters, as Lebanon is a multicultural and multi-religious society and a parliamentary democracy looks to India, the Mother of Democracy, for inspiration. Ambassador Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan spoke about various features of the Indian Constitution, like Fundamental Rights, Fundamental Duties and Directive Principles of State Policy of the Indian Constitution. He also spoke about India’s upcoming G-20 Presidency and the principles of One Earth, One Family and One Future and Vasudhaiva Kutumbkam. The seminar was attended by prominent members of the Beirut Bar Association, media personnel, members of civil society and the Indian Diaspora.

(ii) Preamble Reading: To mark the adoption of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly on 26th November 1949 as Constitution Day of India, the Embassy team gathered to read the Preamble of the Constitution on 26th November 2022 and pledged to dedicate themselves to the ideals enshrined in the Constitution. Ambassador Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan administered the preamble reading both in Hindi and English to all India-based Officers and Officials.
