The 400th birth anniversary of India’s legendary war hero LACHIT BARPHUKAN was celebrated on 24 November 2022 at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre. The programme began with a lighting of the traditional lamp followed by a floral tribute to his portrait and a dance performance depicting Assamese culture by SVCC Kathak students choreographed by Kathak Dance Guru Ms Anjana Kumari.
The Ambassador Dr Shankar Balachandran in his address spoke about the valour of LACHIT BARPHUKAN in protecting his homeland from invaders. The Ambassador called upon to include such success stories in the textbooks to fight the tendency of defeatist mentality and a mindset of inferiority complex some sections develop due to lack of exposure to such inspiring past.
Over 40 people including Senior functionaries of the Ministry of Culture, prominent PIOs, NRIs, ICC students and officials of the Mission attended the event.
