Ministry of Culture celebrates Umang : Rangoli Making Festival as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

Umang - Rangoli Making Festival

January 13, 2022 to January 14, 2022

Rangoli is drawn in different states with different names and on different themes. Be it Kollam in Tamil Nadu, Sathiya in Gujarat, Alpana in Bengal, Mandana in Rajasthan, Osa in Odisha, Aipan in Uttarakhand, or simply the Rangoli from Maharashtra – every region has its own unique way of representing their traditions, folklore and practices.

This 13 and 14 January, Ministry of Culture is celebrating ‘UMANG - Rangoli Making Festival’ to celebrate the different hues of India and to express our feelings about our country. More than 50+ events are being organised across states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Assam, Odisha, Haryana, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and more covering multiple districts of the country.

As a run up the festival many events, workshop and activities based on Rangoli have been taking place all across the country and even in our missions abroad.

Ministry of Culture is also organising a Rangoli Making Competition as part of the ‘Unity In Creativity’ series of competitions that focus on expressing our love for the motherland and give wings to our creativity via deshbhaktigeet writing, lori writing and rangoli making competitions.
