Qila Aur Kahaniya Festival at Vellore Fort

The Qila Aur Kahaniya Campaign, organized by the Ministry of Culture as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative, took place at Vellore Fort in Tamilnadu on 18th July 2023. This campaign's main objective is to showcase the rich history of forts across India and promote the theme of Cultural Pride.

The theme of Cultural Pride pays tribute to India's vibrant culture and history, honoring the unsung heroes who selflessly sacrificed for the nation's freedom and future. It celebrates both the tangible and intangible aspects of our cultural identity. Through the Qila Aur Kahaniya campaign, the unique characteristics and historical significance of various forts in India are highlighted, offering an opportunity to connect with our past and honor India's cultural legacy.

During the morning session on 18th July 2023, a Heritage Walk was conducted at Vellore Fort. Approximately 400 students participated in the walk, which was inaugurated by Smt. A. Sujatha, the Honourable Mayor, and Shri P. Karthikeyan, the Honourable Member of Legislative Assembly, Vellore Constituency. The students were guided through the Vellore Fort Lawn and its surroundings, where the history and heritage of the site were explained in English. Students held placards with unique and catchy slogans about the forts' heritage sites and monuments.

The Archaeological Survey of India, Sub Circle Vellore, also organized essay writing and drawing competitions for the students. There was also a drawing competition held at Vellore Fort Lawn during the same morning session, with 70 students participating in these competitions.

In the evening, a special address was given by Shri. K. Vishnu Sankar, LS, Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax (C), distributed prizes to the competition winners. The cultural performances for the evening included the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force Pipe Band team, led by Commander Shri. Dheshal Shyamal, gave an excellent band display performance. Thappattam folk dances were presented by Shri. V. Babu and team from Katpadi, and Shri. Sakthivel and the team from Tirupattur presented Dummy Horse, Karagam, Kavadi, Pambal, and Nyandimelam.

The event was a triumphant celebration of India's cultural heritage, bringing together history, art, and performances to instill a sense of pride and connection to our nation's past.
