G. Panjaratnam was born on 6 July 1924 to Govindasamy Naidu in Latteri Village in Katpadi. When he was a young boy, he participated in the Salt Satyagraha with his family in 1931. In 1945 he joined the Indian Air Force as a fitter. At the same time, he was supporting the Indian National Congress and also took part in the Quit India Movement. Later, he was suspended from the Air Force and was arrested under section C.I.4 of Defence of Indian Rules. He was imprisoned for six weeks with 50 rupees fine in Labour Contractors in Bangalore Central Jail.
