Paying tribute to India’s freedom fighters

Deshbandhu Gupta

Deshbandhu Gupta was born in 1901 to Shri Shadi Lal, who was a resident of Delhi. Deshbandhu from the very beginning inclined toward Politics. He joined the Indian National Congress and worked as a General Secretary in the Provincial Congress Committee in Delhi. He had a long career fighting for the liberation of the ' Mother Nation'. Deshbandhu Gupta actively Participated in the Noncooperation Movement. He encouraged the masses of Delhi to actively boycott the various symbols of British Rule. He also suffered one year of rigorous imprisonment in 1921-22. The civil Disobedience Movement also saw his active support. Deshbadhu urged the Delhi Public to boycott Foreign Clothing and turn to the idea of 'Swadeshi'. Deshbandhu Gupta was the editor of 'Daily Tej', but was arrested on October 8, 1923, for his revolutionary writings. His wife Shrimati Sona Devi and Son Vishwa Bandhu were also sent to Jail with him for their participation in Civil Disobedience Movement. He along with his family was the chief organizer of the Civil Disobedience movement in Delhi. Later, he became a member of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, but resigned and joined Jugal Kishore Khanna in fighting against the British. In 1942, Deshbandhu was detained under the Defense of India Rules for his participation in the Quit India Movement.
