Unsung Heroes Detail

Lakshmi N. Menon was born in Thiruvananthapuram on 29 March 1899. She became a member of the Indian National Congress and she attracted many women to the freedom struggle in Travancore. She studied in England and she attended the 10th anniversary of the Russian Revolution in Moscow. She was the secretary of the All India Women's Conference. She organized meetings of the Conference in various parts of Kerala and encouraged women to fight for freedom. After independence, she was nominated to Rajya Sabha. She also served as the Indian Representative in the United Nations and later she became the Union Foreign Minister. She died on 30 November 1994.
