Priyanath Deywas born to Khirod Prasad De and Pitambari Debi in June 1922 in village Punanga in Jagatsinghpur district. Having completed his education in his village school he completed his matriculation at Sri Krishna Academy in Jagatsinghpur.

When he was a student of Raveshaw College, he was influenced by the workers of Alakashram of Jagatsinghpur such as Rama Debi, Nabakrushna Chaudhury, Gopabandhu Chaudhury, and Sarala Debi who had already become legend by participating in Salt Satyagraha in 1930. Being influenced by them he left college and joined Quit India Movement in August 1942. He was arrested and sentenced to one-year imprisonment. After being released from Cuttack jail he went to meet Aruna Asaf Ali in Kolkata for her advice and guidance about his next course of action. On his way to Cuttack, he was arrested by Balasore police in Balasore railway station and again lodged in jail for meeting her.

After India’s independence, he joined Praja Socialist Party. Thereafter he completed his graduation by studying privately and was appointed as a teacher. He was also elected to Odisha Legislative Assembly in 1961 but did not like to remain in power politics for long. Rather he spent the rest of his life for social service.
