Gopal Singh hailed from Punjab and resided at Namunaghar in South Andaman. He was a compounder. He joined his brothers Dulip Singh and Gajjan Singh in becoming members of the Indian Independence League (IIL). He was arrested and interned in the Cellular Jail. During his imprisonment he received s a series of brutal torture. On 30 January 1944, he was shot dead by the Japanese Firing Squad and buried in an ‘L’ shaped mass grave with 43 others at Homfraygunj in South Andaman. A memorial ‘Balidan Vedi’ has been erected in memory of them at the spot where they got martyrdom.
