Paying tribute to India’s freedom fighters

He was born on 13th January 1909 in the Pandeyghat area of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. He joined Hindustan Republican Army and considered Rajender Lahiri as his guru. His uncle Jitender Banerjee was a police officer on whose evidence Lahiri was executed. He later killed his uncle and was arrested and sentenced to ten years imprisonment. In Fatehgarh jail, where he was interned, he began a hunger strike with other political prisoners for their better treatment from 14 May 1934 and after 66 days he died due on 20 June 1934 in lap of fellow prisoner Manmath Nath Gupt.
