She was born on 23 February 1892 in a working-class family of the USA. She supported Indian freedom fighter revolutionaries like M.N. Roy, and Virender Nath Chattopadhyay. She moved to Germany to help revolutionaries of the Hindu-German Conspiracy (1914-17) and remained partner of Virender Nath Chattopadhyay for many years. She died on 6 May 1950 in London. She was a journalist and author. Her autobiography Daughter of the Earth is world famous and is translated in Indian languages, including Hindi.
