Powergrid electrifies village in Leh under DDUGJY scheme

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna company under Ministry of Power, Government of India, has electrified Youlchung Village in Leh under Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY-New). During a ceremony conducted as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, the village was commissioned and a dry ration was distributed amongst villagers wherein Sarpanchs, Numberdars, Naib sarpanches, panchs and members of villages of Youlchung, Skumpata, Fotoksar were present.

Powergrid has constructed the 11 kV HT network of 30.59 km from Fotoksar Village to connect Youlchung with the National Grid. The 415V LT Infrastructure has also been developed by Powergrid within the village and has installed three distribution transformers of 63 kVA capacity each, for the first time.

This remote village has been electrified for the first time after seven decades of Independence. With this, telecom companies are also installing telecommunication equipment to provide mobile connectivity for the first time, and it will open up horizons of opportunities in the fields of education, employment, etc.

Powergrid is a Maharatna Enterprise under the Ministry of Power having its regional headquarters of Northern Region-II at Jammu. Powergrid is engaged in inter-state bulk power transmission. Powergrid has 172,104 km of transmission lines, 264 sub-stations, and more than 464,292 MVA of transformation capacity. With the adoption of the latest technological tools and techniques, enhanced use of automation, and digital solutions, Powergrid has been able to maintain average transmission system availability >99%.
