A Curtain Raiser Event for the 8th International Day of Yoga was celebrated at the House of Councillors Building (National Diet) on 13th June 2022 with a commemorative Yoga Session for Parliamentarians. The Yoga session was organized by the Embassy of India in Tokyo and the Parliamentary League for Promotion of Yoga in Japan, in association with all major Yoga organizations in Japan including the Yoga Organisation of Japan, Maharishi Institute of Total Education, and Art of Living. H.E. Sanjay Kumar Verma, Ambassador of India to Japan; H.E. Hakubun Shimomura, former MEXT Minister and Chairman of the Parliamentary League for Promotion of Yoga in Japan; and, H.E. Hiroshi Yamada, Member of the House of Councillors and the Secretary-General of the Parliamentary League for Promotion of Yoga in Japan addressed the gathering. The subsequent yoga session was conducted by representatives of each Yoga organization. Numerous Japanese MPs, members of Yoga organizations, and Embassy officials attended the event.
