About Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

 

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements. This Mahotsav is dedicated to the people of India who have not only been instrumental in bringing India thus far in it’s evolutionary journey but also hold within them the power and potential to enable Prime Minister Modi’s vision of activating India 2.0, fueled by the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav is an embodiment of all that is progressive about India’s socio-cultural, political and economic identity. The official journey of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” commenced on 12th March, 2021 which starts a 75 week countdown to our 75th anniversary of Independence and will end post a year on 15th August, 2022.

Freedom through Technology

Smart Cities Mission (SCM) under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has planned numerous events across 100 Smart Cities during 27 September 2021 to 3 October 2021 as part of the celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) to commemorate 75th year of India's Independence.

In line with the purpose of the Smart Cities Mission to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life of people by enabling local area development and harnessing technology, especially technology that leads to Smart outcomes. The CEOs of the 75 Smart Cities are hereby requested to organize an event "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Freedom through technology", in their Integrated Command & Control Centre (ICCC) / Information Communication Technology Centre (ICT) of smart cities in support of AKAM celebrations across the nation. This event focuses on the readiness of the cities to mitigate the nine challenges in the urban India through technological interventions. The nine freedom themes which cities aspire to get freedom from:

  1. Freedom from Waste
  2. Freedom from Traffic
  3. Freedom from Crime
  4. Freedom from Water-scarcity
  5. Freedom from Queues
  6. Freedom from Green House Gases (GHGs)
  7. Freedom from Pollution
  8. Freedom from Disease
  9. Freedom from Inefficiency

 

Under this Freedom through technology, the Smart Cities Mission encourages cities to host an event in their ICCC / ICT between 1st to 3rd October 2021 showcasing the successful technological ICT interventions to the citizens focusing on how cities are achieving technology enabled freedom. The event must have the following activities:

 

  1. City will organize interactive and real time demonstration of the technological interventions in front of citizens by using their own innovative ways based on the identified theme(s) of freedom.
  2. City will invite different stakeholders during the event viz. local media, eminent citizens, department and administrative heads, school children, citizen representatives etc. for maximum outreach to citizens.
  3. Cities may broadcast the live event on electronic and digital media on the Smart Cities webpage, digital handles etc.
  4. City may organize a visit in ICCC hall / room and demonstrate the use cases to citizens in the group of 10 or 20 people (basis the space available and ensuring COVID appropriate behavior is followed).
  5. City may record (video record) citizen feedbacks / testimonials and capture photographs of the citizens attending the event.

 

All 75 Smart Cities have submitted the freedom themes identified and are planning to host a wide variety of initiatives.
