Gujarat

October 13, 2022

Another landmark achievement under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel has been added to the glory story of Gujarat, which is the role model of development in the country. In the Logistics Ease Across Different Status Index-LEADS-2022 released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India on Thursday, Gujarat has been ranked in the achievers’ category of the top performer state.

According to the LEADS report announced by the Union Minister Shri Piyush Goyal during the workshop on P.M. Gatishakti National Master Plan organized at Vigyan Bhavan, Delhi, Gujarat has retained its position in the category of advanced states for the fourth consecutive time in the efficiency of movement of goods.

Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel has congratulated the concerned departments for this yet another successful step in the direction of Atmanirbhar Gujarat to Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Gujarat has previously achieved the first rank in the LEADS index in the three years 2018, 2019 and 2021. This year, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India has announced the list of states involved in various categories based on performance instead of ranking the states.

This LEADS index is prepared by the Government of India by obtaining the views and opinions of the stakeholders involved in the logistics sector in various states and union territories of the country and conducting an online survey for the purpose of promoting an integrated logistics ecosystem in the country. This year, more than 6500 opinions were received from around 2100 respondents from across the country. Classification based performance grading has been given this year in LEADS 2022. Gujarat has secured its pride of place in the achievers category by getting more than 90 percent ranking in it.

It is necessary to point out here that Gujarat alone carries 40 percent of the country’s cargo with a 1600 km long coastline. Gujarat has built a comprehensive logistics infrastructure value chain with a vast network of roads reaching out to remote areas, DMIC, DFC, Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway, development of jetties in the state and rail connectivity projects. Gujarat also actively contributes to the P.M Gati Shakti National Master Plan.

The Integrated Logistics and Logistics Parks Policy in line with the State Government’s Pro-Active Policies, Well Driven Infrastructure and Services Driven by a Responsive Government provides a new impetus to the state-wide logistics network ecosystem. Under the direction of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the government is boosting ease of logistics in Gujarat through projects like road modernization, doubling-gauge conversion of rail lines and Taranga-Ambaji railway line. The Government of India has also recently decided to construct two new terminals at Deendayal port for speedy export of goods.

Due to the changes in the global supply chain in the situation of corona epidemic, this fourth consecutive year of Gujarat’s leadership in the LEADS index will be an encouragement and attraction for the industries coming to Gujarat to do their business operations to take advantage of this robust logistics infrastructure.
