High Commission celebrated India’s 73rd Republic Day in Colombo on 26 January 2022
After paying tributes to the fallen heroes of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) at the IPKF memorial, High Commissioner Gopal Baglay hoisted India’s national flag at India House – the residence of High Commissioner of India – and inspected the Guard of Honour. High Commissioner also read out excerpts of the President of India's message. A special video message from External Affairs Minister, Dr. S.Jaishankar was shared with the audience. The event also featured songs by the Sri Lanka Navy band and a cultural program organized by High Commission’s Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center.
During the day, High Commissioner will participate in the Republic Day celebrations at the Ratmalana Param Dhamma Chaitya Pirivena, where around 10 Indian students are studying. Prayers by the Mahasangha to invoke the blessings of The Buddha were organized during the event.
