The "Jal-Itihaas" sub-portal under the India-WRIS portal has been launched in the 1st All India Annual State Ministers' Conference held on 5th-6th January 2023, wherein the list of 75 Water Heritage Structures across the country has been announced.
Showcases some selected water heritage structures more than 100 years old. Initially, 75 such structures were included and others were added.
These 75 Water Heritage Structures are recommended by Water Heritage Structure Selection Committee.
Apart from this 75 Water Heritage Structures, Committee has formed a list of 24 potential structures, that may be declared as Water Heritage Structures in the next list and hence are of utmost importance and must be conserved by the States.
All the above-recommended structures and sites should form part of the proposed National Register of Water Heritage Structures on the Jal Itihaas portal.
The 75 Water Heritage Structures would be required to host a plaque that would carry a brief explanatory note. The recognized structures would be eligible for protection, may host a community cleanup effort, awareness - research– documentation by students and researchers from educational institutions, and may be eligible for an expert-guided modest conservation effort supported by MoJS/State Govt.
