Bhadrak, Odisha

December 08, 2022 to December 08, 2023

Krupasindhu Panda was born on 17 June 1913 in Bahudarada village of Bhadrak district. Though his biological father was Diwakar Panda, he was adopted by Nishakar Panda. After completing his primary education, when he was in a minor school he came in contact with many local congress workers from whom he knew about the repressive measures of the British government to suppress the freedom struggle. This created anti-British sentiment in him who jumped into the freedom struggle. He joined the congress and participated in various satyagraha programs. His main duty was to carry and communicate the secret message of the local congress committee to other congress workers in remote places. At that time Farashidinga of Balasore was the secret meeting ground for many underground activities of the revolutionaries. Many messages of Congress were cyclostyled there for distribution to the people. When Krupasindhu was carrying some cyclostyled messages to Puri he was caught by the police at Puri railway station and was arrested. He was sentenced to two months imprisonment. Thereafter he participated in salt satyagraha for which he was sentenced to six months imprisonment. After his release from jail, he again joined the movement by performing individual satyagraha for which he was arrested again. This time he was sentenced to four months imprisonment. In the Quit India Movement in 1942, he was a leading soldier in the capture of the court of Bhadrak and Dhusuri for which he was arrested and sentenced to two years imprisonment. After his release, he was again arrested for leading a demonstration in Balasore. But this time he was lodged in the camp jail of Patna for six months. After his release, he again participated in the movement. While picketing before an opium shop he was arrested and dragged to the courtroom where he was sentenced to four months imprisonment. On 15 August 1947, he was immensely satisfied by hoisting the national flag in his own village. The rest of their life was devoted to the service of the people for which he was widely respected. His contributions to the freedom struggle and social service are fondly remembered and talked about by the people of his area.
