Shri Balwant Singh Mehta was a freedom fighter from Udaipur district, Rajasthan. He joined the movement against irresponsible governance. He participated prominently in people’s movements like Bijolia Kisan Andolan, Pratap Sabha, and the Haldi Ghati Fair, etc. He was the director of the Pratap Sabha. He organized the first exhibition in Mewar called “Mewar ki Jhanki''. The Praja Mandal was established at his house on 24th April 1938 AD. As the President of Praja Mandal, he made relentless efforts to awaken public consciousness through activities like distributing pamphlets, delivering mail, giving speeches, sitting in protests, etc. As a result, he was placed under house arrest in Sarara for a year. In the 1942 AD movement also, he endured the torture of jail. He was also kept in Udaipur Central Jail for some time. Along with providing education to the tribal people for their upliftment, he also did many kinds of social reform. He played an active role in the Bijolia Kisan Andolan, the movement of the Bhils. He was the founder of a newspaper named ‘Pratap’. When his fellow revolutionaries were put in jail he initiated the Haldi Ghati fair.
