Dattaram Ganesh Kolvenkar

Dattaram, a goldsmith by profession, son of Ganesh Rama Kolvenkar, was born at Chinchinim village of Salcete taluka in South Goa District on 10 July 1930. He was educated in Hindi /Marathi and had matriculated. He was a member of the AGD(Azad Gomantak Dal) and participated in Prabhat Pheris, as a student in Chinchinim village, organized by Dr. Eduardo Furtado and Dr. Jose Maria Furtado in 1947. In 1954, he affixed posters, hoisted tricolour flags, circulated pamphlets, cut telephone wires to paralyze the communication system, and worked for enrolling the Satyagrahis. He also assisted in dynamiting the Sanvordem bridge and participated in terrorist activities like sending hand bombs to Government officers by registered parcels. He was involved in a plot to post parcels containing bombs concealed in books to Justice Quadros and a prominent businessman Damodar Mangalji from Panaji, wherein Justice Quadros had been seriously injured on opening the parcel. On detecting the plot, he was arrested on 13 June 1956 along with his colleagues. He was then, continuously interrogated, tortured, tried by the TMT, and sentenced to three years imprisonment. He was released in May 1959. After Liberation, he joined the INC. He was awarded the Tamrapatra by the Central Government on the 15th of August 1972. He was an associate of Policarpo D’Silva, Madhav Angle, Naguesh Angle, Raghuvir Bhise, Rajnikant Kenkre, Roque Santana Fernandes, and Pandarinath Lotlikar.
