Kumarappa Gounder was born on 1908 at Velayuthapalayam, Karur District to Karuppanna Gounder. He participated in the Quit India Movement in 1942 and was arrested and sentenced to 3 months at Kulithalai and Vellore. When he was in Vellore jail, he met Former Educational Minister T.S. Avinashilingam and became very close friends. Later in 1954 -1956, he constructed the Government School at Punjabi Puhalur village at Velayuthapalayam. He received a Freedom Fighter pension from State Government, pension order No 9761 from 14 April 1981. He passed away on 14 December 1999.
