Hari Naik

Pune, Maharashtra

April 24, 2024 to April 24, 2026

Hari Naik, a trusted confidant of Vasudev Phadke, played a crucial role in clandestine meetings where plans for rebellion were meticulously crafted. Demonstrating immense bravery and chivalry, Hari Naik carried out daring raids on the homes of affluent moneylenders who colluded with the British, utilizing the proceeds to fuel the cause of independence. Entrusted with significant responsibilities by Vasudev Phadke, Hari Naik fearlessly led the charge against British tyranny, endeavoring to realize the visionary dream of Swarajya set forth by Krantiveer Umaji Naik.

Initiating the first stirrings of rebellion on 23 February 1879, Hari Naik orchestrated a raid on the residence of a British-affiliated moneylender in Dhamri village, liberating the impoverished from the clutches of usury. Subsequently, on 5th March 1879, in Walhe village near Davadi Nimgaon, Panmala, Jejuri, he orchestrated another daring operation, relieving the downtrodden from the tyranny of moneylenders.

However, Hari Naik's valiant efforts did not escape the notice of the British authorities, who offered a substantial reward for his capture. Betrayed by informants, Hari Naik was apprehended in Bavi village, resulting in a tragic confrontation where his father-in-law lost his life. Subsequently, Hari Naik, along with his injured accomplice and several others, faced a trial in Pune, culminating in a death sentence.

Hari Naik passed away on 04 April 1879, in Jejuri.

Name mentioned in Hutatma Smarak, Jejuri.
