Kashi Narayan Gupta

Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh

April 24, 2024 to April 24, 2026

Kashi Narayan Gupta was born on 12 April 1911, at 38/121 Purbiya Mohal village, Meston Road, Kanpur district, Uttar Pradesh. His father, Gajodhar Prasad Gupta, raised him in a humble farmer family where education was a luxury. Despite lacking formal schooling, his heart was set on serving his motherland, Bharati.

Driven by the spirit of patriotism and inspired by the ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi and VinobaBhave, he rallied the people of his village and neighbouring areas, urging them to join the freedom struggle. When Gandhi ji proclaimed the call for the Quit India Movement on 8 August 1942, with the resounding slogan of "Karo Ya Maro," he wholeheartedly embraced the cause, igniting the flame of resistance in others.

His unwavering dedication led to his arrest and imprisonment in a district jail by the British authorities, where he endured harsh confinement and brutality. Despite the hardships, he emerged from jail even more determined, continuing his revolutionary endeavours upon his release. Joining the Indian National Congress, he worked tirelessly under the guidance of eminent leaders, contributing significantly to the nation's cause.

Kashi Narayan Gupta passed away on 26 January 1995 at his residence in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

Pension order issued by Government of India in 1974.
