Shri Ramkaran Joshi was born on 2 October 1912 in the Dausa district of the state of Rajasthan. He became active in the freedom movement from his student days. He was active in the movements of the Takiapur Rajya Prabha Mandal from 1939 to 1942. During this period he played an important role along with other important farmers' movements in Rajasthan. He was a follower of Mahatma Gandhi. He participated in the salt satyagraha and Quit India movement of 1942 and for this reason, he was imprisoned. There he was subjected to various kinds of torture, but the British could not break his resolve. He infused the feeling of patriotism among the youth of rural areas. In the year 1945, Ramkaran Joshi was made the chairman of the Swatantra Committee of the All India Indigenous State Lok Parishad's conference ceremony held in Udaipur.

From 18 April 1948 to 6 April 1949, he was the Prime Minister of United Rajasthan. In 1951, he became the President of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee. In the first general election of 1952, he was elected a member of the Lok Sabha from Sawai Madhopur and a member of the Legislative Assembly from Dausa. After this, he resigned from the Lok Sabha and joined the Tikaram Paliwal government of the state of Rajasthan.

He was a member of the Executive Committee of the All India Congress Committee from 1952 to 1954. He was a member of the Lok Sabha from Udaipur in 1957 and from Chandigarh in 1962. In 1967, he was made the President of the Rajasthan Khadi Village Industries. On 24 January 1969, this great hero died.
