The Fiftieth Session of Indian National Congress took place in Faizpur village of Yawal taluka in the Jalgaon district of Maharashtra. It is remembered for the large-scale participation of peasants in it. Jawaharlal Nehru was the president at this session which was held on 27th and 28th December of 1936.
It was the first session that took place in the countryside. Congress was consistently raising issues of the peasants and tenants. The Presidential speech was also concerned with such issues. Nehru extended solidarity to people in jail. He, then, blamed the British government and its decisions for the domination by fascism. He demanded an end to imperialism and establishment of a democratic-socialist state as a solution to the problems of Indian masses. He gave a call for peace in the times which later led to World War II. He stated that India would not be a party to any imperialist war and it would not provide resources to sustain the war either. He also clarified that the intent behind Congress fighting electoral polls was to persuade masses towards waging a mass struggle for independence.
The session was heavily influenced by the All India Kisan Sabha and was a huge success due to its record participation.
