She was born in the year 1878 in Ireland. She came to India in November 1915. E. Cousins became the Principal of National College, Madanapalle, Chittoor District. Being a suffragist, she had been courted and imprisoned in Ireland and England. In India, she condemned the action of authorities in banning political meetings. On 21 May 1930, she participated in the Home Rule Movement along with Dr. Annie Besant. She also undertook extensive tours to propagate, Swadesi. She propagated the benefits of khadi. She also participated in the Civil Disobedience Movement. She was arrested and detained on many occasions at Rajahmundry and Vellore Jails.
