His father’s name was Sarat Chandra De. He joined a revolutionary party in 1923. In 1928 he was arrested in connection with a shooting case but was set free after seven months. He took part in the removal of fish plates in a railway line and cutting of telegraph wires at Nangal Kot Station on 18 April 1930 and the European Club Raid on 30 October 1933. He was arrested at Kanungopara from a house with rifle wounds. Arms were also found in that house. He remained underground for some time. He was finally arrested and was sentenced to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment.  He suffered a total jail period of more than 9 years in jail and an underground period of more than two years.
