Ramu Thever

Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu

November 21, 2022 to November 21, 2023

Ramu Thever was born in Thumbadaika Kottai village, Ramanathapuram District. When he was young his family migrated to Malaysia. He was inspired by Nethaji Subash Chandra Bose and joined the Indian National Army from Penang. He was assigned to spy on British troops in India. When his team was on the way to India, the submarine was tracked and all were arrested and brought to Kolkata. He was kept in Alipore jail for some years. The letter he wrote to his mother reveals the harsh realities he faced and his dedication to the freedom of the country. His mother wrote him letters till 1948, even after freedom, but did not get any reply from her son. One day, the Indian Government officials informed her that her son had been transferred to Madras jail in 1943 and was hanged 4 years ago.
