Paying tribute to India’s freedom fighters

C. Subramanyam was born on 30 January 1910 in Senguttaipalayam near Pollachi. He completed his early education in Pollachi and did his B.Sc. Physics from Presidency College, Chennai. Later he did Law at Madras Law College. He was very active in the Civil Disobedience Movement during his college days. He was jailed during the Quit India Movement in 1942. Then he was elected to the Constituent Assembly and contributed to the framing of the Constitution of India. He was a Minister of Education, Law, and Finance from 1952 to 1962 under Rajaji and K. Kamaraj. Along with Dr. M.S. Swaminathan and B. Sivaraman, he was the architect of India’s modern agricultural development policy and the Green Revolution. In 1990, he became the Governor of Maharashtra. The Government of India honored him with the Bharat Ratna Award in 1998. He passed away on November 7, 2000.
