He hailed from village Pago in Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand. He was a sepoy in the 5/18 Garhwal Riffles of the British Indian Army after the surrender of his unit at Malaya in 1942. He joined the Azad Hind Fauj as a sepoy in the III Guerrilla Regiment. He died in action at Burma.
