Maharaja Kulachandra Dhaja was the son of Maharaja Chandrakirti and Chongtham Chanu Naha Lukeswari. He was born on Monday, the 26 February 1885 (corresponding to the 10th day of the Manipuri month of Lamda, 15th Phalgun 1776 SE). During the reign of his father, he was Wangkheirakpa (a ministerial post). On the death of Maharaja Chandrakriti on Friday, the 20 May 1886, Kulachandra ascended the throne of Manipur on 23 September 1890. After the defeat of the AngloManipur War of 1891, Maharaja Kulachandra was arrested on 8 May 1891 and was tried before a special commission under the presidency of Lt. Col. St. John Mitchell. He was charged for waging war against the Queen Empress and transported for life with forfeiture of properties vide No 1653E, dated 18 August 1891. From Foreign Secretary to General Officer Commanding Manipur Field Force. He was released in 1885 from Andaman and was residing at Hazaribagh Jail. On his release from Hazaribagh, he spent the remaining part of his life at Radhakunda (Brindaban) and died on 26 January 1934 at Radhakund Uttar Pradesh.
