Hoshiarpur, Punjab

September 01, 2022 to September 01, 2023

Jawand Singh alias Jaswant Singh hailed from Nangal Kalan village of Hoshiarpur. His father’s name was Narain Singh. Ghadar Party’s plan of uprising failed as British authorities intruded on many informers among the ghadarites. After the failure of the uprising, ghadarites planned to kill the informants to avenge the arrests and hanging of ghadarites. Accordingly, Jawand Singh along with Banta Singh Sangowal and Buta Singh killed informer Zaildar Chanda Singh on 25 April 1915, in Nangal Kalan village, district Hoshiarpur. Zaildar informed the police about the hideout of another ghadarite, Paira Singh Langeri. Jawant Singh was arrested on 28 March 1917 from Kalewal village of Hoshiarpur and sent for Fourth Supplementary Lahore Conspiracy Case. Judgment was delivered on May 26, 1917. He was convicted under sections 121, 302, 396, and 149 of the Indian Penal Code. He was executed on 17 July 1917
