Garimella Satyanarayan

Garimella Satyanarayan was born at Narasannapeta, Andhra Pradesh on 14 July 1893.He was a poet and freedom fighter fought against the British Government and expressed his feelings through his patriotic songs and writings. He was imprisoned by the British government several times. The Andhra people were inspired by his talents and he was considered as one of the great patriots.

He is identified by his famous song (We don't need this white rule) which was popular in Andhra Pradesh during the Freedom struggle. He was against caste discrimination and fought for the rights of women.

Later on, he joined Mahatma Gandhi and participated in the Freedom Movement. Though he was a poor person, he contributed all his wealth for the national cause and used it to provide free food to the freedom fighters.

Garimella Satyanarayan passed away on 18 December 1952.
