Hira Singh Chawla, son of Trilok Singh hailed from Punjab was deported to Andaman on transportation for life.
He was an active member of the Indian Independence League (IIL). He was arrested on 12 January 1944 and confined in the Cellular Jail. After he received a series of brutal torture, on 30 January 1944, he was shot dead by the Japanese Firing Squad and buried in an ‘L’ shaped mass grave with 43 others at Homfraygunj in South Andaman. A memorial ‘Balidan Vedi’ has been erected in memory of them at the spot where they got martyrdom.
