Shiv Singh belonged to Haripur village of Jalandhar district. His father’s name was Gurdit Singh. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Babbar Akali Case as accused no. 19. He was a staunch Babbar revolutionary. The origin of the Babbar Akali movement lies in the Sikh Educational Conference of March 1921 held at Hoshiarpur. This conference was attended by prominent leaders but could not satisfy the young radical Sikhs who held a separate meeting and pretended for aggressive measures. These young radicals decided to kill the loyalists and apologists of the British Empire. Shiv Singh also joined the Babbar Akali movement and actively participated in it. He was convicted on 25 February 1925 in the Babbar Akali Conspiracy Case. The judge noted: “ I find this accused guilty of criminal conspiracy in regard to the murder of Labh Singh and convicting him of an offense under section 120 B/115 of the I.P.C. sentence him to seven years rigorous imprisonment including three month’s solitary confinement and a fine of Rs. 100 or one year’s further rigorous imprisonment in default. His case calls for a maximum sentence”.
