World Environment Day 2023 celebrated with focus on mission LiFE

Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change celebrated ‘World Environment Day’ (5th June 2023), focusing on mission Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE). The concept of LiFE was introduced by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the World Leaders’ Summit at COP26 in Glasgow on 1st November 2021.

Actions related to mission LiFE have been categorized as: save water, reduce waste, save energy, reduce e-waste, reduce single-use plastic, adopt sustainable food systems, and adopt healthy lifestyle.

The Prime Minister addressed the gathering through a video message and underlined that India is already making significant efforts to minimize plastic pollution. He added that India has prepared a roadmap for maintaining a balance between real-time climate change, present requirements, and future preparations for various green initiatives for the country. The Prime Minister also congratulated the Ministry for the launch of ‘Amrit Dharohar’ and ‘Mangrove’ initiatives.

Shri Bhupender Yadav, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change; and Labour and Employment graced the event and witnessed the exhibition based on LiFE. He addressed the event and talked about LiFE and its reference in various international documents such as the Preamble of Paris Agreement, the cover decision of COP27, etc.

He also informed everyone about the ‘Meri LiFE’ portal (merilife.org) that has been developed for Ministries and Institutions to upload event reports. To date, more than 13 lakh events with the participation of around 2 Crore people have been registered on the portal.
