Prime Minister addresses the inaugural session of the Global Buddhist Summit

Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the inaugural session of the Global Buddhist Summit in New Delhi on 20th April 2023. He walked through the photo exhibition and offered a floral tribute to the statue Lord Buddha. Nineteen eminent Buddhist monks from around the world were also offered robes by the Prime Minister.
The theme of the summit is “Responses to Contemporary Challenges: Philosophy to Praxis”. It aims to bring together the world's leading Buddhist Dhamma researchers and practitioners to discuss issues and universal concerns of the Buddhist community and to develop policy recommendations for collectively addressing them. The conversations at the Summit deliberated upon the role of core principles of Buddha’s Dhamma and how it may offer motivation and direction in modern situations.
The Prime Minister welcomed all the eminent personalities from different corners of the world by highlighting the quote ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ which means guests are equivalent to God. He applauded the collective efforts of Ministry of Culture and International Buddhist Confederation for organizing the momentous event.
The Prime Minister informed that the Global Buddhist Summit is taking place when India is celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. He added that India has worked with dedication to propagate Lord Buddha’s teachings to the world.
Sangha leaders and Dhamma practitioners from around the world participated in the Summit and are expected to address current global concerns and solutions in the Buddha Dhamma based on universal principles. Click here to read more.
