Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the program ‘Commemoration of 50 years of Project Tiger’ at Mysuru, Karnataka on 9th April 2023. He launched the International Big Cats Alliance (IBCA) initiative and released the publication ‘Amrit Kaal Ka Vision for Tiger Conservation’, a summary report of the ‘Management Effectiveness Evaluation’ of Tiger reserves. He released the summary report of ‘All India Tiger Estimation’ and a commemorative coin to mark the completion of 50 years of Project Tiger.

The Prime Minister highlighted India’s growing tiger population. This landmark event of Project Tiger completing 50 years is a moment of success for the whole world. India has not only saved the tiger population but has also provided them with a flourishing environment

Tigers have a great significance in the history of India, with graphical representations of tigers being found on ten-thousand-year-old rock art in Madhya Pradesh.

The Prime Minister stated that India has the largest range of tigers, Asiatic elephants, and single-horn rhinos. India’s leopard population has also increased by over 60% in the past four years. He highlighted the success of Project Tiger which has led to increasing in tourist activity and awareness programs.
