October 21, 2022
“Mission LiFE unites the people of the earth as pro-planet people”
Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated ‘Mission LiFE’ at the Statue of Unity, Gujarat, India. The Prime Minister and the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also paid floral tributes at the world’s largest statue dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Congratulatory video greetings of the leaders of 11 countries of the United Nations region were played at the opening of Mission LiFE as well.
While addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres views India as a second home and informed everyone that he frequently visited the country during his youth years. He thanked the leaders of all countries for sharing their wishes on this occasion and expressed his joy at the support that has been given to India for embracing the Mission LiFE program.
The Prime Minister informed everyone about the motto of Mission LiFE: ‘Lifestyle For Environment’. He emphasised the advantages of Mission LiFE, saying that it links people's powers for the preservation of the world and instructs them on how to use these resources more effectively. He emphasised that Mission LiFE creates a democratic environment in which everyone may participate in the battle against climate change to the best of their ability. "Mission LIFE motivates us to take all appropriate measures in our daily lives to preserve the environment. According to Mission LIFE, we can safeguard the environment by altering our way of life”, the Prime Minister added. He used India as an example, where LED lamps have been widely used to cut costs and protect the environment.
By organising the Mission LiFE launch event in front of the Statue of Unity, a massive statue of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, the pride of India, Shri Narendra Modi emphasized the significance of unity in the battle against climate change. He said, “The world’s largest statue will be a source of inspiration in achieving the set targets”.
The Prime Minister discussed the notion held by many that climate change is merely a problem of policy, which leads to the conclusion that only the Government or international organisations should handle this crucial issue. According to him, people are already feeling the consequences of climate change in their surroundings, and in recent years, unforeseen disasters have been reported. This makes it quite evident that climate change extends beyond only policymaking, and that individuals, families, and communities should all do their part to protect the environment.
The Prime Minister continued by saying that the P3 model's ‘Pro Planet People’ philosophy is strengthened by Mission LIFE. As pro-planet individuals, all people on earth are brought together by Mission LiFE. It operates according to the fundamental tenet: Lifestyle of the planet, for the planet, and by the planet. The Prime Minister noted that only by studying previous patterns could one create the route for the future.
