National Handloom Day celebrated at SPSR Nellore

National Handloom Day is celebrated under AKAM at SPSR Nellore District on 07.08.2022.

While nation is celebrating 75 years of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav District Administration has initiated a 1 Km Handloom Weaver Walk and Exhibition Smt P Sravanthi, Mayor-Nellore Municipal Corporation, Joint Collector Sri Ronanki Kurmanth IAS, Smt D Haritha IAS Commissioner also participated in the Rally. Public and Handloom weavers have participated in a 1 Km Handloom Weaver Walk to sensitize the public on the importance of the Handloom and weaver community and their contribution to the 'Swadeshi Movement

Sri KVN Chakradhar Babu IAS, District Collector, and Magistrate, and Smt P Sravanthi, Mayor, Nellore Municipal Corporation inaugurated NABARD and Canara Bank supported Handloom Exhibition and Sale (up to 13.08.2022) at Sri Kasturidevi School Grounds, Nellore. Joint Collector Sri Ronanki Kurmanth IAS, Smt D Haritha IAS, Municipal Corporation, Nellore also participated in the event. He addressed the gathering and highlighted the “Swadeshi Movement ” and since 2015, to commemorate  100 years of the movement Handloom Day is being celebrated across the country.

District Collector said that the weavers will be supported to rise their income in all forms and requested to continue the age-old culture and significant Indian traditional art. He stressed that weaving one saree takes about 300 hours of time and energy and weavers shall be given due respect for this humble cause. He said that wavers across the state from all 26 districts participated in the fair and established 30 stalls including the APCO stall. He urged all the people to visit the exhibition and support the weavers to rise their income and improve their livelihood. He advised all the officials working in State/Central government, and PSUs to wear the Khadi dress every Monday as a mark of support to weavers to improve their livelihoods.

Sri P Sravanthi, Mayor, NMC has emphasized that Handloom occupies the 2nd place in employment creation next to Agriculture and it shall be supported by all the people.  On this occasion, District Collector and Mayor felicitated two senior weavers in the district for their contribution to the Handloom industry.

District Collector has appreciated the Lead District Manager, Canara Bank for taking a good initiative by assisting the weavers to the tune of ₹ 1.00 Crore on this auspicious occasion and handed over sanction letters and cheques to weavers. He appreciated Canara Bank and Andhra Pragathi Grameen Bank for their splendid service and declaring complete financial inclusion of weavers in A S Peta and Narayan reddy Peta villages respectively under Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana Scheme. He requested to extend the same to all the villages in the District and ensure saturation. He also requested to conduct EDP and Skill development training for weavers through RUDSETIs to impart the latest skills and designs and technology.

District Collector has interacted with the beneficiaries about PMMY assistance and was satisfied when the beneficiary responded saying that 2nd and 3rd doses are also being extended to Canara Bank without security and the scheme has been extremely helpful to them for purchasing of raw materials and increasing their production.
District Collector along with all district officers visited all the stalls at the exhibition and interacted with the weavers about their incomes and their well-being. The Collector by purchasing handloom shirts and sarees and showcased his concern for the Handloom industry and motivated all the participants to purchase the items.
