An Evening of Dance Extravaganza and Kavi Sammelan and Poetry

Kalanjali: an offering of art at Kartavya Path

February 18, 2023 to February 19, 2023

Kalanjali, at the India Gate Lawns amphitheaters, on Feb 18 and 19, 2023, will be presented by Kalakshetra Foundation and North Central Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC).

Kalakshetra Foundation will present An Evening of Dance, celebrating 75 years of Indian independence. This unique music and dance spectacle will be a celebration of our cultural pride as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The presentation will be in two parts.

The first presentation Bharti Kanda Bharatham is a dance choreography based on the lyrics of the famous Tamil poet, writer, activist, and freedom fighter, Mahakavi Subramaniya Bharatiya. The poem is a salutation to our great motherland, describing her vastness and beauty. She is the provider of all bounty and natural resources. The dancers prostrate in reverence to her ancient civilization and culture. India’s Nationalist movement is also brought in by the poet in his vision of Bharath. With a description of the Freedom Struggle, the poem is also an ode to the many freedom fighters of our great nation.

The second presentation, Sharada Stotram, is in the spirit of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat. This is a prayer to Goddess Sharada, who resides in Kashmir, through the classical dance form of Tamil Nadu, and Bharatanatyam, thereby creating a beautiful connection between the two states.  The presentation also speaks about the river Vitasta, now called the Jhelum, and the other rivers of the country, expounding their role in the creation of civilization and heritage.

North Central Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) will present a Kavi Sammelan and Mushaira, a poetic symposium, an event where poets gather to perform their works. A Mushaira is part of the culture of North India and it is regarded as a forum for free self-expression. Poets and Shayars from across the country will be invited to join the evening and share their poetry. The evening will provide a great opportunity for the people of Delhi to listen to the poets and Shayars from the different parts of our great nation. For the many tourists who visit the national capital at this time of the year, it will be an opportunity to experience our rich literary heritage. The poets from the different parts of the country will bring forth India’s cultural pride, vast knowledge system, her rich literature and will bring out the unity in diversity of this great nation.

The program will be held from 5:30 pm onwards at the India Gate lawns. The dance presentation by Kalakshetra will be followed by the Kavi Sammelan and Mushaira by NEZCC.
