In commemoration of 75 years of Indian Independence under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Geological Survey of India, Northern Region, State Unit: Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, organized an e-lecture on “Geohazards: An Engineering Geological Perspective” as an outreach program for educational institutions to highlight the achievements in the field of the geoscience by Geological Survey of India.
Dr. Atul Kohli, the Director, delivered the lecture to the faculty members, research scholars, and students of the Department of Geology, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Haryana. He also shared excerpts from case studies of some significant incidences of slope failures/ slope instability/ landslides/ ground cracks/ pseudo-volcanic eruptions etc. that have taken place at the sites of various civil engineering projects viz. rail, road, highway tunnel, reservoir, settlements, etc. or nearby areas in the state of Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and other hill states of India.
The lecture was followed by an interactive session. The queries by the students were also attended to at the end of the session. The audience appreciated the lecture session.
