World Hindi Day celebrations in Suriname

The Embassy of India in Paramaribo celebrated World Hindi Day 2022 on 9 January 2022 at Nickerie and on 10 January 2022 at Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center (SVCC), Paramaribo. On the eve of World Hindi Day, a workshop on Hindi was organized at Nickerie on 8 January 2022 with the Hindi Teacher of Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center (SVCC) taking part.

       

The celebration of World Hindi Day 2022 at Nickerie started on 9 January 2022 with a lighting of a traditional lamp joined by Ambassador Shankar Balachandran, District Commissioner Ms. Senrita Gobardhan, and Consul General of Guyana Mr.  Frank Darius. Kathak Guru Ms. Anjana Kumari of SVCC performed a Ganesh Stuti invoking God's blessings for the smooth conduct of the program. A video message of Hon. Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Ms. Meenakashi Lekhi on World Hindi Day was screened. Cultural performances by local talents in the form of rendering of a patriotic song, a Bharatanatyam dance, and a bhajan were staged. The Ambassador, the District Commissioner, the Hindi Teacher of the SVCC, and Dr.Matai addressed the gathering of over 30 people. The winners from the Nickerie district of the essay and poem writing competitions in Hindi were presented with certificates and cash prizes.

       

On 10 January 2022, the second and final segment of World Hindi Day was organized at SVCC, Paramaribo. Ambassador Shankar Balachandran inaugurated the program followed by a Kathak dance performance by the Kathak Guru and students of the SVCC.  A message from the Prime Minister and the Minister of External Affairs of India on World Hindi Day was read.  A video message of Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Mrs. Meenakashi Lekhi was also screened.  The Ambassador and the Hindi teacher of SVCC addressed the gathering.  Mr. Dhiraj Kandhai, Hindi Scholar, Ms. Prabha Balgobind, Hindi Teacher, Ms. Namrata Barohi, Hindi Student, and Mr. Pankaj Kumar Sharma, Second Secretary and acting Director of SVCC recited poems in Hindi.  The thirteen winners of the Hindi Essay and Poetry competitions received certificates and cash prizes. Over 60 Hindi lovers from all walks of life including officials and their family members attended the event.
